WDI facility, equipment, staff, and procedures.
All our mammography equipment has been certified by the FDA, the American College of Radiology, and approved by the New Jersey Department of Health. The ultrasound machine is highly advanced and is particularly excellent in breast imaging.
The mammography and ultrasound technologists, who perform the technical part of your examination, are licensed by the State of New Jersey and registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. They are all extremely skilled, experienced, and caring professionals, and we feel very fortunate to have them on our staff.
Whether you are a new patient or an established one, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding your medical history. Please understand that if you have been here before, although we keep all of the information you have filled out in the past and refer to it, it is very important that you give us a current update to many of the same questions. This information is critical for the interpretation of your exam.
A technologist will escort you, ask you to change your clothes (dressing rooms are available), and when ready, will call you into the examination room where either your mammogram and/or sonogram will be performed. In case of the mammogram, you will be asked to wait for a few moments while the images are being reviewed. After the initial films have been done, the technologist may take additional views. Don't be alarmed. This usually means that one or more of the images needed improvement or clarification. Most often this is because some of your breast tissue was overlapping, and in order to see it better, the breast has to be positioned differently. Please remember that the vast majority of breasts are normal.
Once the technical part of the exam has been completed, you will consult with the radiologist, Dr. Weinstock. She will review your medical history, perform a physical exam (if necessary), discuss the interpretation of your results, and make recommendations for follow-up. She may also suggest ultrasound for women who have a high risk of breast cancer, have dense breasts, or have a mammogram that may be difficult to interpret. Studies have shown an increase in the cancer detection rate of 20-30% in this population of women when screening ultrasound is added to screening mammography. In addition the modality can determine if an abnormality has benign or malignant features and minimizes unnecessary biopsies. There are additional fees associated with these exams, please let our staff know if you need any assistance contacting your insurance company to determine whether these services are covered.
After your visit here, your films will be reviewed again, and a report will be dictated and transmitted to your referring physician. If you would like your films sent to your physician or for yourself, please let our front office staff know.
Should your have any specific concerns or requests, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can help you. We will take all comments and suggestions seriously and try to implement them whenever possible.
